On May 12th the Great Peninsula Conservancy kicks off a crowd-funding campaign to raise an additional $25,000 to complete the purchase of 270 acres of the Grovers Creek Preserve. Donating to the campaign completes two major goals - preservation of a valuable wetland and securing an east-west path for the Sound to Olympics Trail.
The future Grovers Creek Preserve is at the center of the Kitsap Forest & Bay Project. Explore the landscape and find a large peat bog dotted with groves of old growth Sitka spruce, cedar, hemlock and fir trees. These diverse habitats support over 60 bird species, salmon, trout and beavers. The property stretches across the Grovers Creek watershed west of Miller Bay Road and is one of 5 properties sought by the Forest and Bay Project. The Sound to Olympics Trail will cross the Preserve to link the North Kitsap Heritage Park toward Port Gamble.
GPC has raised over $1.8 million dollars toward the purchase and has initiated this crowdfunding campaign to raise the last funds needed to protect this important wetland and trail connection. It will be the third success for the Forest and Bay Project. By making a donation through our crowdfunding campaign you can be part of conserving this beautiful piece of the world and the wonderful environment it supports.
We have 18 days to raise the remaining funds for this project and we need your help. Please contribute!
